Wellington Writers Walk sculpture

Designed by award-winning Wellington typographer and graphic designer Catherine Griffiths, the concrete ‘text sculptures’ are placed at various points along Wellington’s waterfront.  Each sculpture contains a quote by a well-known New Zealand writer with strong Wellington connections and was developed by the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Society of Authors.

At Freyberg Beach, on the grass behind the pool, is my addition to the Wellington Writers Walk scuptures:

this town of ours kind of flattened
across the creases
of an imaginary map
a touch of parchment surrealism here
no wonder the lights
are wavering
all over the place
tonight
not a straight town at all
